OLD GRAEMIAN UNION

The school and OGU have been working very closely together to address a number of pressing matters.

  1. The continued need to attract quality boys to the school is an ongoing challenge and the school urges all Old Graemians to "sell" the school to prospective parents. Graeme College has developed into a vibrant, well-managed and successful school – an option for any parent, in South Africa, considering an inexpensive, quality education for their son.
  2. A number of projects are presently on-the-go and any assistance in any form, in order to complete them, will be highly appreciated.
    1. a shelter on the Junor Field is nearing completion;
    2. the First Aid Room at the Somerset Field still needs to have the pavilion/seating section constructed on top of the First Aid Room and ablutions.
    3. The gravel road between Grant House and the "Selborne" road Gate is a big project and will be upgraded by laying brick down between curbing stones. Assistance with the long-overdue project is needed.
    4. The growth in music in the school has resulted in the need to expand the music facility. On the drawing board is a plan to extend the present facility. The building expansion to serve a dire need is a priority.
    5. Gavin Watson has made a big financial contribution to upgrade the existing "weights room." This new "gymnasium" will be well recovered and will serve many boys in the physical conditioning programme. Upgrade of the entrance to this facility is in need of support.
    6. If any individual can help the school obtain a tractor and field mower, your assistance is needed. The school grounds are enormous and there is a need for equipment to maintain this wonderful facility.
    7. The OGU has established a "bursary fund." Interest on this investment will be used to assist needy scholars, and if any individual wishes to support this aspect a donation into the account would help to build the capital. Deposits can be made into:
      First National Bank, Grahamstown
      OGU Donation Fund
      Account No. 62200347541
    8. If any individual wishes to discuss or enquire regarding detail of any of the above, the Headmaster Mr Peter Reed, would be very happy to hear from you. Any advice, etc would be welcomed.
